Traffic, Slides & Grandparents

Originally posted October 12, 2011
We’ll get the unfortunate news out of the way first, Jessica is still suffering from Blog Block so this is once again James bringing you up to speed with events.

In the past 3 weeks Ryan has got to spend a week with his grandparents, visit the zoo, the air/space museum, and find he can have fun on a slide.

It was good to see my parents again for the now-traditional annual trek in September, of course Ryan is markedly different from how they last saw him.  They had fun seeing how he’s changed, and is now capable of falling off the window, running around and breaking into self-approving applause for any deed - good or bad!  In a funny moment he’d look at each of us in the room to make sure we were clapping him as well - it’s been said before, but I’ll say it again - he clearly has an ego!

We introduced them to BD’s, a mongolian restaurant in Bethesda, it’s more than fair to say it was very popular, so much so I’m convinced it’ll certainly be on our list next time.  We then intended to go up to the Aquarium in Baltimore, this led to the journey from hell - taking 3 hours to complete in horrendous weather and avoiding several inconsiderate, lazy & downright crap drivers.  MD really needs to up it’s standards for driving tests cos it was abysmal!  The aquarium was good, though a lot of it was closed by the time we got there, in the end I think we were all glad to head home.

We spent some time on the Saturday getting photos & a video from BMW - you may have seen the photos earlier from Reston - we’ll get these up on the site asap along with another video to enjoy.

Oh, Jessica invented a game where we had to spot different license plates from each state. Jessica, being a cocky bitch, reminded us how wonderful she was each time she picked one out.  She then decided that if anyone spotted either Alaska or Hawaii it was an automatic win.  Well, let’s just say the UK destroyed the US, not by 1-0, nor 2-0, but a thumping 3-0... on consecutive days we spotted Alaska plates in the apartment block, near the Washington Zoo and finally at Dulles.  Game Over, victory to the visitors !

Ryan’s climbing skills are progressing, so much so that he now loves to go to the play-area in the apartment blocks....he climbs up to the small slide, sits, and zooms down with a huge grin.  Climbs off, runs & repeats.  I put him on the high slide and he loved it even more, so much so that he got me to help him climb back up the slide to go down again.  No fear!

Ok, long enough entry for this time. I’ll put the pressure on Jessica to return here just to save you from more me!
