Donkeys, Dentists & DW

Originally posted November 11, 2011
Hi everyone, clearly the lockout is now beginning to have a huge impact. Jessica still has nothing to contribute here.... so it’s James again bringing you up to date with Ryan’s adventures.

We’ve had quite a busy few weeks since our last entry.  Ryan is continuing to slide, as long as he climbs up the slide and down the steps. Sometimes though evil Dad is obligated to grab him and make him slide down, which he finds entertaining.

As part of the Halloween events Ryan went to the National Zoo, he went as Eeyore, which was an inspired choice as the costume was, A> unique that night, & B> very warm & cosy for him.  Jessica managed to help him select plenty of treats she would like and she even managed to share some with him as well!  As & when the photos are updated, I’ll return here and make it the default picture.

Ryan had his first dentist appointment last week, which was better than expected.  It’s possible he suffers from the same “small mouth” syndrome I have (no comments from the monkeys in the back please) and could need a little work to sort that out. But everything looked good and the dentist was happy with how his teeth look so far. Here’s hoping he never has teeth out with no anesthetic - I can vouch that’s less fun than a boot in the nuts!

Having had a good day picking pumpkins with Maggie, Jeff & Fiona, with tag-a-long Jen a couple of weeks ago, we came home and I flicked onto the motor racing, only to quickly realize that a huge accident had occurred, it became apparent that someone had been injured and as information came out it was obvious it wasn’t good news.  It turned out that Dan Wheldon, a driver I’d followed closely & supported ever since he came to USA and began driving Indycar had sustained fatal injuries.  Just 5 months earlier he’d won the biggest race of the year - the Indy 500 - and that morning had signed a deal to return to full-time driving.  He left a wife and 2 sons, just 2 years & 6 months old.

Even though he died doing a job he loved, it’s probably little consolation to his family & kids who face a future without him, the ages of his children struck us both and reminded us to remember our responsibilities towards Ryan & each other.

Till next time.
