Well
another few weeks have zipped past, I really ought to start making notes
on what’s been going on... my memory is not what it used to be, or
maybe all the days are now merging into one!
We’ve packed a few things into the
last 4 weeks, yesterday we were down in Richmond for Father’s day giving
Dennis & Connie a chance to see Ryan. He was happy to dig up the
plants and rip up the string by the bean patch... I think he brought
half of the soil home with him in his shoes! He also managed to begin
the education of Dennis that “Cars” is far more beneficial than “Father
Knows Best”. We’ve warned Ryan that he’s fighting a losing cause on
that battle!
Work is going ok for us both, just the
usual fun, games & politics. I do wonder though why senior
managers seem to forget the art of man-management when they get
promoted, perhaps it’s because they’ve got their tongues so far up their
bosses buttcracks and the lack of oxygen has an effect. It’s very easy
to come in & be critical, but it’s far more of a skill to be
constructive without damaging morale. You’d think for $400k per year
they’d have some personnel ability!
Ryan is still bumbling along, he’s
working hard on his signing to help him verbalize what he wants. He’s
got quite good at “MORE” and can add food & drink to that. He’s
aware of “Open”, “On” & “Help” but still isn’t using those sounds.
No problem with his receptive skills though, when he hears the word
Cookie he gets excited! He’s making a game of putting all his toys
& balls away before he goes to bed, he still doesn’t enjoy going to
bed, but often crashes out within 5 minutes, till 6 am - we’re hopeful
he’ll be sleeping a little longer as it gets darker.
Ryan did manage to create a huge black
eye for himself last week, running around with a ball he’d passed a
cushion at least 10 times, till he decided to launch over it.... sadly
for him the table was next to it and he splatted face down on the side
of the uncovered bottom part. His eye & cheek swelled up quickly,
but he allowed me to get some ice on it and that helped, but he still
has a nice black & yellow stripe over his eye.
On a final note, we’ve officially
begun the countdown to number 2.....August 25 should be the day, unless
Jessica decides to be awkward, fingers crossed that things continue on
the same path they have so far, and we get to that day with no issues.
Looking forward to it already!
Oh I
forgot.... we have some nearby babies to us already! A birds nest
appeared above the fire alarm right outside our door, we noticed a bird
nesting regularly there so hoped eggs could be in production, sure
enough at least 3 hatched - hard to see, it’s quite high. Unfortunately
at least 1 chick has died because it can’t fly & the nest is high
above a concrete floor - you do the math - but 2 more, maybe 3 are still
there and waiting for mommy & daddy bird to bring them food. Of
course the negative of this is right outside our door is a huge pile of
bird shit, but that’s not a problem, Ryan enjoys seeing the nest &
the chicks when I pick him up. Hopefully they’ll all do well and
eventually fly off and be happy out there.
